Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how SailWindow handles information.
Overview
SailWindow is an iPhone marine forecast app. The app fetches marine weather data directly from NOAA, the National Weather Service, the National Data Buoy Center, Open-Meteo, and map/radar providers. SailWindow does not operate a separate backend service.
Information You Enter
You may save sailing locations in the app. Saved locations can include names, latitude, longitude, NOAA zone metadata, and related forecast metadata. This information is stored locally on your device so the app can refresh forecasts for your saved spots.
Location Data
SailWindow uses the locations you enter, save, or select as route endpoints to request weather forecasts, marine alerts, text forecasts, buoy observations, wind guidance, wind-only route estimates, and radar map tiles. If you grant When In Use location access, the app can also show your current position on marine weather maps or use it when you explicitly choose a current sailing spot. The app does not collect precise device location in the background and does not sell location data.
Weather Data Requests
When SailWindow refreshes weather data or displays wind and radar maps, selected coordinates, NOAA zone identifiers, map tile coordinates, or the map viewport may be included in requests to NOAA, NWS, NDBC, Open-Meteo, RainViewer, OpenStreetMap, CARTO, Iowa State IEM, and the UNPKG map-library CDN. Those external services may receive standard technical information associated with web requests, such as IP address, request time, and user agent.
Notifications
If you enable notification rules, SailWindow evaluates those rules locally on your device against refreshed forecast and alert data. The app does not use a production push notification backend for these rules.
Analytics and Tracking
SailWindow does not include third-party advertising SDKs, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not sell personal information.
Data Sharing
SailWindow does not share your saved app data with the developer through a backend service. Weather requests are made directly to public weather data providers as needed to provide forecasts, alerts, and observations.
Data Storage and Deletion
Saved locations, cached forecasts, cached alerts, cached observations, notification rules, and temporary in-memory wind, route, and radar map data are stored locally on your device. SailWindow keeps at least one sailing location so its primary screens remain usable; add another location before removing the current last location. You can delete the app from your device to remove its local app data.
Children's Privacy
SailWindow is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
This Privacy Policy may be updated as SailWindow changes. The updated date at the top of this page will reflect the latest version.
